ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Objective: To identify the 100 most-cited articles in DH and analyze their characteristics. Material and Methods: A search was performed on the Web of Science (WoS) and the 100 most-cited articles were selected. The following data were extracted: citations, year of publication, authorship, institution, country, journal, language, study design, topic of interest, conflict of interest (COI), and sponsorship. The VOSviewer software was used to visualize bibliometric networks. Poisson regression analysis was performed to measure associations between several citations and the characteristics of the studies. Results: The number of citations ranged from 346 to 48. The most-cited article was published in 1997 by Holland in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology. This journal published the most papers, followed by the Journal of Oral Rehabilitation and Journal of Dentistry. Laboratory research, review, and clinical trial were the study designs most prevalent. Reviews (p<0.05; PR= 1.853) and method development studies (p<0.05; PR= 1.853) had a more chance to present more citations. The main topics of interest were the clinical effectiveness of desensitizers and in vitro analysis of dentin morphology. Sponsorship and COI were underreported. England and USA presented the greatest number of citations and connections in the coauthorship network map. Conclusion: Most of the articles were original research, and their topics of interest were mainly the clinical effectiveness of desensitizing agents and dentin morphology.

ABSTRACT

Measuring and analyzing the quality of scientific publications is fundamentally important for assessing the progress and impact of researchers, research groups and scientific journals in the academic community and society (1,2). Traditionally, this assessment was entrusted to peers with a recognized track record, eligibility and prestige. However, bibliometric indicators have been used for several years to eliminate subjectivity, which aim at a measurable, objective and multi-dimensional qualification (1,3). Bibliometric indicators (BI) can be defined as quantifiers of the bibliographic information available in scientific and academic documents susceptible to being analyzed in terms of production and consumption (1,2). There is a typological variety of BI (1,2) based on the object to be examined (researcher, journal or research group) and, in some cases, they are cross-sectional to it. In this way, personal indicators (age, gender and background of the authors) only apply to researchers or groups, while productivity and impact also apply to journals. For journals, the productivity (quantity) and, more so, impact ("quality") indicators, are routinely used to classify journals and compare them, with the increasingly controversial purpose of measuring their academic and/or social pertinence and relevance (4).

ABSTRACT Objective: To describe the scientific output on medicinal plants published between 2000 and 2019 with at least one author with Peruvian affiliation. Materials and methods: A bibliometric study was carried out by conducting a systematic search in the Scopus database, from which original articles or short communications on medicinal plants that had at least one author with Peruvian institutional affiliation were selected. The characteristics of the publications, institutions, countries and authors who participated in this research are described. The ratio of international collaboration, the transience index, and the institutional and co-authorship collaboration networks were calculated. Results: A total of 200 original articles published in 83 journals were included. The quantity of articles showed an increasing, though irregular trend during the studied period. The most productive institution was the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, and the journal in which most of the articles were published was the Journal of Ethnopharmacology. Authorship and institutional collaboration networks showed the influence of international collaboration in these publications (53.0%). Conclusions: Peruvian scientific output on medicinal plants shows an increasing trend, observed mainly in academic university settings. The articles are published on high-impact journals, due in part to the high level of international cooperation.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is known to induce atrial remodeling, which promotes fibrosis related to arrhythmogenesis. Accordingly, since scars induced by catheter ablation (CA) can reduce unablated fibrotic areas, greater extent of left atrial (LA) scarring may be associated with less AF recurrence after CA. Objectives: This study aims to investigate, through systematic review and meta-analysis, whether the amount of LA scarring, seen on late gadolinium enhancement magnetic resonance imaging, is associated with less AF recurrence after CA. Methods: The recommendations of the MOOSE guideline were followed. Database search was conducted in PubMed and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (comentário 1) until January 2019 (comentário 2). Two authors performed screening, data extraction, and quality evaluation. All studies were graded as good quality. A funnel plot was generated, showing no publication bias. Statistical significance was defined as p value < 0.05. Results: Eight observational studies were included in the systematic review, four of which were included in the meta-analysis. Six of the eight studies included in the systematic review showed that greater extension of LA scarring is associated with less AF recurrence after CA. Meta-analysis showed that greater extension of LA scarring is associated with less AF recurrence (SMD = 0.52; 95% CI 0.27 - 0.76; p < 0.0001). Conclusion: Greater extension of LA scarring is possibly associated with less AF recurrence after CA. Randomized studies that explore ablation methods based on this association are fundamental.
